We spend time with a lot of great people in West Africa. One person who keeps popping up in our lives is Martin Obeng, a terrific example of one who reaches out to others through service in the community. Martin is a teacher by profession. His greatest desire is to make a difference in the lives of young people. We have followed Martin around to several of his projects and assignments in and around Accra. Often with the assistance of LDS Charities, Martin works tirelessly alongside organizations to inform the public of issues that usually have simple and effective solutions.

| Martin supported a measles and rubella campaign for children 9 months to 14 years by rounding up thousands of LDS volunteers. | The program was taken to schools/villages where nurses and trained volunteers helped Ghana reach a measles elimination stage. |

| Martin and another Ghanaian serve as counselors to the president of the LDS missionary training center in Tema. They and their wives help with the new missionaries as they study in the MTC for a few weeks. Martin's wife teaches the French-speakers. | Missionaries learning French were in the missionary training center last Christmas Day, so the MTC presidency and the senior couples prepared a delicious brunch and played games to make the holiday enjoyable for these young men and women. |
